Presbyopia

This occurs when the lens inside the eye loses some of its flexibility so that it becomes difficult to focus on close objects.

Presbyopia is the result of the eye’s ageing process and affects everyone from their mid-40s onwards.

Presbyopes need glasses for reading, and sometimes for ‘intermediate’ distances. If already long-sighted or short-sighted, a different strength of lens is needed for close work compared to that for long distance. The different prescriptions can be combined into a single pair of varifocals lenses. These are often far more convenient than swapping between separate pairs of single vision glasses.

Everyone’s vision changes over time and you may experience one or more of the above conditions. That is why it is important to have regular eye examinations.

If you are experiencing the symptoms of Presbyopia, there are four lens options:

Reading: good for near vision only. If you look up at a computer screen or across a room, your vision will blur while wearing glasses.

Bifocal: An older option where the lens is divided into two distinct sections for near and distance vision, but provides no correction for mid distance. Read more...

Varifocal: Ideal for all distances, as the lens corrects near, distance and in-between vision. Read more...

Occupational: Ideal for computer users who want to see the computer screen and read at the same time. Read more...
